AN ANALYSIS OF GRAMMATICAL COHESION USED IN THE ENGLISH ESSAYS OF ENGLISH GRAMMAR AND COMPOSITION FOR INTERMEDIATE LEVEL

Abstract

The current study evaluates the cohesive ties of essay writing. Cohesion is of paramount importance in academic writing. Ten essays have been taken from renowned English Grammar and Composition for the intermediate level. The data have been analyzed with the help of software, Coh-Metrix. The results show a high level of cohesion and connectedness in them. There is syntactic simplicity, referential Cohesion, the concreteness of words, ease and narrativity of a very high level. The methodology adopted for the analysis will provide the researchers with new avenues to work on cohesion in academic writing.
