Abstract

The current study evaluates the cohesive ties of essay writing. Cohesion is of paramount importance in academic writing. Ten essays have been taken from renown English Grammar and Composition for intermediate level. The data have been analyzed with the help of a software, Coh-Metrix. The results show high level of cohesion and connectedness in them. There is syntactic simplicity, referential Cohesion, concreteness of words, easability and narrativity of very high level. The methodology adopted for the analysis will provide the researchers new avenues to work on cohesion in academic writing.
